Selected by editor Mireille Silcoff, the 2023 edition of Best Canadian Essays showcases the best Canadian nonfiction writing published in 2021.

Mireille Silcoff is the author of four books, including most recently, the award-winning story collection Chez L’arabe. Mireille’s work often appears in the New York Times Magazine and other publications, where she writes about culture and society. She has been a columnist at many publications, notably the National Post, where she was a weekend columnist for 14 years. Mireille is the founding editor of literary journal Guilt & Pleasure Quarterly and is the editor of Best Canadian Essays 2023. She has been called “one of the best essayists in the world” by the New York Times, and for many years, ran a raucous discussion salon in Toronto. She lives in Montreal with her two young daughters.
